Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2 has just revealed another three zombie types that will be available to either fight or run away from once the game officially comes out this April. The studio has broken its own record of staying silent for years in regard to providing updates about the sequel, with new information being released almost weekly.
There have been some sneak peeks in the last month or so on what to expect for Dead Island 2, one being the different variations of zombies that will be on the constant hunt to eat those who play the game. Zombie types that have already been confirmed include a crusher zombie, a screamer, a slobber, a runner, a walker, and a shambler. However, the three new zombies may just be a slightly tweaked version of some of the already-announced versions.
The three new zombie types are grenade vest walker, spiky walker, and the crusher inferno, the crusher inferno just being the already announced crusher zombie – but on fire, which is going to be terrifying. Each new zombie had its own individual social post on the official Dead Island Instagram account, which all contained the same caption, see below.
“Good ol’ Infected zombies are the least of your worries in HELL-A. Introducing Variants, zombies whose special traits make them even more deadly…”

Grenade Vest Walker
Dead Island 2 already announced that a “walker” zombie type will be available to survive against, however, it seems that the walker zombies will come packed with various weaponry and problems.
This new walker will clearly be an explosive issue, covered in grenades and clothes as a soldier, you may want to kill this one from a distance – just to be safe.
Spiky Walker
Another walker variant reveal by the team behind Dead Island 2, is a spiky walker, visibly covered in barbed wire that will most likely harm you if you get too close.
It looks like the developers are thinking up ways to get the players to use more long-distance weapons, as opposed to the popular method of hand-to-hand combat or using a katana like in the original game.
Crusher Inferno
Some fans of the Dead Island‘s original two installments were quick to point out that a “Crusher” reminds them of the iconic “Thug”, which for those of you who may not know, was a tougher-to-beat zombie that would typically be both taller and stronger than the average Dead Island zombie.
However, thug or no thug, this flaming version of the crusher in Dead Island 2 seems like it could potentially be much tougher than the original thug variant.
