The upcoming DC film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, part of the first batch of movies coming out of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new-look DC Studios, has nabbed its writer. As per Hollywood Reporter, Playwright and actress Ana Nogueria will be scripting the upcoming film, which will be a standalone feature focused on Superman’s cousin.

The team-up of Nogueira with the dynamic duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran brings even more excitement to the ever-expanding cinematic universe of DC Studios. Although information about the director is still under wraps, Nogueira’s attachment to the film is a noteworthy progression for the project.
Interestingly, Nogueira’s connection to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is not new. It dates back to 2022 when Warner Bros first conceived it as a spinoff of The Flash, with Sasha Calle in the lead role. However, under the leadership of Gunn and Safran, the project went through a transformation. They restructured the DC brand, converting DC Films into DC Studios kickstarting the development of an entirely new lineup.

When Gunn and Safran joined DC Studios, they introduced a fresh vision for the studio, bringing in new superheroes and giving a makeover to iconic characters like Superman and Batman. Initially, it was believed that the Supergirl project was shelved, but later they revealed plans for a different film centred around the young superhero as part of their upcoming lineup.
Supergirl Will Be Fiercer Than Ever This Time
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has moved away from its initial ties to The Flash and draws inspiration from a comic book mini-series of the same name by Tom King, published in 2021 and 2022. In King’s comic, Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, and her loyal companion Krypto, a superdog, become entangled in the vengeance mission of a young alien girl.

King’s storyline aimed to redefine Supergirl by exploring her origin as a character raised on a fragment of Krypton. Unlike Superman, who was brought up by loving parents on Earth, Supergirl experienced the tragic loss of those around her, moulding her into a more intricate and world-weary personality.
It remains uncertain to what extent Nogueira will incorporate elements from King’s storyline into her feature. However, Gunn and Safran were impressed with her contribution to the earlier Supergirl film, leading to her reappointment as the writer for the new project.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow does not have a release date yet.
