Peyton Reed, who directed Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, has confirmed that an exclusive moment can be seen only when watching IMAX showings of the movie. However, details on what this moment is were deemed to be a spoiler which led to Reed not revealing much else on the matter.
In a recent video on IMAX’s official Twitter account, Reed is shown talking about the third Ant-Man film and the mysterious IMAX moment planted somewhere during the movie. Reed says during the interview: “One of my favourite transitions is… Well, I can’t spoil this. Can I spoil this, is this for later? We used a… We do a little thing that’s sort of an IMAX curtain roll. To introduce an appearance of one of our characters later in the movie. And that was really run because that was something where we took the IMAX format and we really are overt about it and say ‘okay, here we go, we’re shifting into this thing’.”
Marvel Studios are known for filming with IMAX cameras for their large-scale Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, with IMAX screens typically displaying more footage from each frame, revealing more than a normal theatre would. This could be what Reed is referring to, there could possibly be some footage that can only be seen when watching the movie inside an IMAX screening. However, Reed does mention the fact that the moment involves the introduction of a character that appears “later in the movie”, which could potentially be Corey Stoll’s MODOK.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania spoilers exist further down this article, spoilers on the post-credit scenes of the movie, be warned if you have yet to watch it yourself.
Could Victor Timely Be The Special Moment?
Reed could also be referring to the post-credit scene reveal of Victor Timely, the Kang Variant who is seen performing some sort of show inside an early 1900s-themed club, which also reveals Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius watching from the audience.
Victor Timely, however, does walk out onto a stage that quite literally features a curtain roll to unveil Jonathan Majors’ new addition to the already established collection of Kangs he will be playing as in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reed does say that the moment in question is some “sort of an IMAX curtain roll”, leaving fans guessing on what this specific moment may be, which will most likely be revealed once the movie has been out for a while longer.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now playing in theatres worldwide.
