Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Post-Credit Scenes Description Details

This article contains major spoilers for Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania‘s ending and post-credit scenes, be warned before reading if you haven’t watched the movie yet.

Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is officially out in theatres worldwide, for all fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to go watch and gather their own opinion on the third Ant-Man installment. Phase 5 of the MCU has also officially begun now as the new Ant-Man installment kicks it all off, setting up Kang’s Dynasty which is what the majority of Phase 5 will be leading up to.

The movie contains two post-credit scenes, one technically being a mid-credit scene, with both scenes setting up Kang’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, it may not have been entirely clear for those watching the two attached scenes, what they set up, and how they connect to the original comics from Marvel.

First Post-Credit Scene Explained

Marvel Comics - Council of Kangs
Marvel Comics – Council of Kangs

In the first attached post-credit scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, we are treated to the live-action MCU adaptation of the famous “Council of Kangs” originally seen in Marvel Comics. Variants of Kang can be seen teleporting into the vast arena, with teleportation technology similar to John Krasinski’s Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is interesting as Reed Richards’ is one of Nathaniel Richards’ (Kang) ancestors in the comics.

The beginning of the scene mostly shows brief shots of hundreds of Kangs teleporting into the middle of the Roman coliseum-like arena, with other Kangs being shown seated in the stands. Similar to the Loki series, massive statues of Kang can also be seen towering over the sides of the Council of Kang’s arena. It should also be noted that it seems that every Kang variant during this scene is played by Jonathan Majors.

The scene then cuts to three Kang variants who seem to be of higher rank than the rest, with one that says “so the exiled one is dead”, a nod to Kang’s supposable death in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Pharoah Rama Tut is the variant who says this, a famous variant of Kang from the comics who once ruled the whole of Egypt. Who is also one of the earliest forms of Kang ever seen in Marvel Comics, and will most likely be a reoccurring variant in the MCU.

Tut (Kang) then continues to ask “Are you sure he’s dead?”, which is answered by a more futuristic and bald variant of Kang dressed in a purple tech suit of some kind who says “If it wasn’t true, I wouldn’t have called you”. This purple futuristic Kang variant has been speculated to be Kang Prime from the comics, but his comic counterpart doesn’t get a mention so we may just have to wait and see which official Kang variant he is supposed to be.

It is then said to the purple futuristic Kang, by the Tut variant, “It really must eat you up that you’re not the one who killed him.”, referencing again to the Kang from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This is when a third Kang approaches the two, and enters the conversation by saying “None of us killed him. They did.”, and this Kang variant is a spitting image of Marvel Comics‘ Immortus character.

Once Immortus walks into the scene, Rama Tut bows in his presence whereas the purple futuristic Kang variant does not, which seems to indicate that the futuristic Kang may either be a similar rank or just have a higher ego. This also reveals that Immortus may be a more elder and leader-like Kang variant, who may just be overthrown in the future by a fellow Kang variant.

Immortus then adds “They’re beginning to tough the multiverse and if we let them, they will take everything we built. So let’s stop wasting time!”. Immortus then opens a window of sorts which reveals the sacred timeline, which is the wavy space-looking timeline also revealed in the first season of Loki. However, the sacred timeline is a complete mess now, with branches all over the place teasing that incursions are taking place across the multiverse. Incursions have been referenced multiple times now in the MCU, most recently by Kang the Conquerer in the third Ant-Man where he explains that Kang variants caused incursions when they tinkered with the multiverse, which he did try to stop by starting a war with them before being exiled to the Quantum Realm.

Immortus then tells his fellow Kang variants “We’re late”, futuristic Kang then responds with “How many did you call?”, referencing how many Kang variants have been called to the meeting, to which Immortus replies by saying “All of us”, cutting back to the arena revealing that thousands of Kang variants have shown up to the meeting. This scene is a confirmation that the Avengers will be facing thousands of Kang variants in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which may prove a little bit tougher than Thanos.

Second Post-Credit Scene Explained

Loki Season 2
Loki Season 2

The second post-credit scene attached to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is actually a setup for both a future Kang variant and the second season of Loki, as the Loki series is already extremely connected to the Kang Dynasty. In the scene, it is revealed that the Kang variant Victor Timely has indeed joined the MCU just as rumors had stated online during the past few months. Jonathan Majors appears on a stage of sorts, with a mustache and glasses, completely dressed as the Victor Timely variant, a variant that was previously rumored and explained here at CoveredGeekly.

Loki Season 2 Will Reportedly Introduce Fellow Kang Variant Victor Timely

Victor Timely steps out onto a stage and proceeds to tell an early 1900s audience that “Time is everything, it shapes our lives, but perhaps we can shape it!”. It is then revealed that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius are both sitting in the audience watching the Kang variant perform. Loki tells Mobius “It’s him”, but Mobius just sees an unimpressive performer and tells Loki “You made him sound like this terrifying figure”, Loki responds by saying “He is”.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is now playing in theatres as of February 17th, 2023.
