The last of the old DCEU, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is generating a wave of excitement among DC fans. Now Warner Bros. Pictures has revealed a new synopsis and a list of the main characters for the movie in anticipation of its premiere on December 20
Similar to their approach with the recent release of “Blue Beetle,” DC hasn’t heavily promoted the Aquaman sequel so far. However, there is still time before its debut for the studio to increase its marketing efforts.
A trailer for the movie was unveiled in mid-September. Although this may appear to be quite a gap considering the film’s December release, this teaser set a new record for the shortest time between the first trailer release and the premiere of a DCEU movie so far.
Aquaman 2 Synopsis
As per the Aquaman 2 synopsis, the plot revolves around Black Manta’s quest for vengeance, fueled by his deep desire to avenge his father’s death.
His menace has escalated significantly as he harnesses the power of the “Black Trident” to release an ancient and malevolent force.
To prevent irreversible destruction, Aquaman and his incarcerated brother Orm must form an unlikely alliance.
Here is the Official Synopsis of the Movie:
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
Aquaman 2 Returning Characters
In addition to the synopsis, Warner Bros Pictures has also provided a list of main characters that will appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The final DCEU movie features seven main characters who are reprising their roles from the 2018 film Aquaman.
Arthur Curry/Aquaman – Jason Momoa
Jason Momoa is set to return in the main role of Arthur Curry/Orin, also known as Aquaman.
In the first film, Arthur eventually assumes leadership in Atlantis, even though he has been reluctant about fully embracing his underwater heritage throughout the story. As the sequel begins, Aquaman will be “balancing his duties as both the King of Atlantis and a new father.”
Orm – Patrick Wilson
Orm, Aquaman’s adversarial half-brother who initially held the throne as the King of Atlantis, eventually becomes the Ocean Master in the first film.
However, by the end of the first movie, Orm was imprisoned. In the sequel, Orm is compelled to assume a new role as Aquaman’s hesitant ally, setting aside his grievances with his brother as they work together towards a shared goal.
Mera – Amber Heard
Amber Heard portrays Mera, the Queen of Atlantis, who serves as Arthur’s main love interest and is also the mother of their newborn child.
Similar to Arthur’s dual responsibilities, Mera, at the beginning of the movie, will be juggling two roles – she will hold the positions of both “Queen of Atlantis” and “mother to the heir of the throne”.
David Kane/Black Manta – Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, reprising his role as Black Manta in both movies, will once more portray the antagonist in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
He remains steadfast in his mission “to avenge his father’s death by destroying Aquaman, his family, and Atlantis”. With the formidable Black Trident by his side, he becomes a formidable and formidable adversary.
Atlanna – Nicole Kidman
Arthur and Orm’s mother, Atlanna, formerly the Queen of Atlantis, appeared to have been executed, but by the conclusion of the first film, it was revealed that this was not the case.
Described as “a formidable leader and a mother with the spirit of a warrior,” Atlanna will once again be played by Nicole Kidman in the sequel.
King Nereus – Dolph Lundgren
In the sequel, Dolph Lundgren reprises his role as King Nereus, Mera’s father.
In the first film, Nereus was recruited by Orm in a scheme against the surface world. However, Nereus was deceived into this alliance through a web of lies.
It raises the question of how he will react when the father of his grandchild teams up with the individual who had so clearly misled him.
Dr. Stephen Shin – Randall Park
Randall Park’s character, Dr. Stephen Shin, is a marine biologist who has a deep fascination with Atlantis.
In the post-credit scene of the first film, he was persuaded by Black Manta to assist the villain in exchange for the chance to visit Atlantis. It’s probable that fans will witness the repercussions of this arrangement for both parties in the upcoming movie.
This year has been a forgettable one for the DC universe, as most of its 2023 films have failed to make a mark at the box office. Now, the onus is on Aquaman to lift the DC universe out of troubled waters.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom soars into theatres on December 20, 2023.
