Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls 6 Officially Goes Into Early Development – Here’s What We Know

With Starfield just right around the corner for Premium Edition owners, Bethesda has been able to release news on their other IP “The Elder Scrolls”.

Elder Scrolls 6’s History So Far

It was back in 2016 at E3, where Todd Howard, reported that the studio was working on the sixth instalment of “The Elder Scrolls” but that it was a very long way away.

Then in 2017 at E3 once again, the vice president of public relations for Bethesda stated that no new title was in development and that they had two major titles to complete before that would change.

It would be at E3 2018 where Todd Howard would show the first teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI and announced that it would be releasing after Starfield.

It would then be in 2021 when Phill Spencer would mention that Elder Scrolls 6 wouldn’t be coming out until after Playground Games’ Fable title.

A year later Howard was able to confirm in an interview that the game was still in pre-production. Todd Howard then reiterated in June 2023, that The Elder Scrolls VI will be coming after Starfield and that it could be the last Elder Scrolls he makes.

For people unaware, Creation Engine 2, will be the engine that TES 6 uses and is the current engine being used for Starfield.

When Does Elder Scrolls 6 Come Out?

There is still no release date for The Elder Scrolls VI, but it is known that it will be released after Starfield.

Thanks to an Interview by Vandal, we were able to get some major updates from the vice president of Bethesda Studios, Pete Hines.

Hines mentioned in this interview that they won’t be releasing news early on The Elder Scrolls VI as Starfield is their main focus, and it will be for some time before they decide to talk about anything else.

Though he said we won’t be getting any news for some time, he was able to reveal one thing. The Elder Scrolls VI is no longer in Pre-Production and has entered development but it’s in early development.

The Elder Scrolls VI might be very far from being playable in our hands but at least we know the development on it is going well.
