Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is now stalling at the Box Office, after amassing over $820M at the global Box Office. Earlier this year, right after the release of the first Wakanda Forever teaser, it was revealed that Daniel Kaluuya was not going to return as W’Kabi for the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Jordan Peele’s horror flick Nope. The news was disappointing for us, to say the least. With the release of Wakanda Forever, his absence was mentioned in the movie, which you can read more about below.
How W’Kabi Was Supposed To Look In ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’
Concept artist Niek Schlosser went on Instagram to share concept art for W’Kabi’s deleted appearance in Wakanda Forever.
“Redesign of Wkabi’s costume made for Wakanda Forever, sadly never made it in, but Nope was a great film”
This suit seems to have a more armoured look, suitable for battle.
Where Is W’Kabi In ‘Wakanda Forever’?
In Queen Ramonda’s speech after which Okoye was stripped of her rank, we learn what happened to W’Kabi after Black Panther. In the speech, Ramonda tells her that she could visit her husband (yes!), who was in exile.
In an interview with CinemaBlend, director Ryan Coogler was asked what happened to Daniel Kaluuya’s W’Kabi between the events of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, to which he answered:
That’s a great question. He’s basically banished, but still within Wakanda’s borders, if that makes sense. It’s one line that refers to him still being alive.
Wakanda Forever is now playing in theaters. The movie arrives on Disney+ on February 1st, 2023.
