Blue Beetle isn’t as much of a standalone project in the DC Studios lineup as you might have believed. The director of the movie, Angel Manuel Soto reveals that a beloved DC hero makes a brief cameo appearance in his film.

Speaking to Heroic Hollywood, Soto confirmed:
“There are numerous Easter Eggs. I often say that if you watch it for a second or even a third time, you’ll discover new Easter Eggs each time since they’re quite subtle. Did you happen to spot the green beam in the title sequence? That’s the Green Lantern. See? You’ll need to watch it again!”
Where To Spot Green Lantern In Blue Beetle
For those who didn’t catch it, there’s a brief scene where the Blue Beetle scarab is shown flying through space and colliding with a luminous green object. This object is believed to be either a Lantern or the ring that powers the Lantern’s abilities.
Besides the Green Lantern cameo, Angel Manuel Soto also hinted at another cosmic aspect of the DC Universe in relation to Blue Beetle. Soto suggested that one of Jaime Reyes’ most iconic villains might make an appearance in the future, saying, “Get ready for Black Beetle.“
For those who might not know, Black Beetle is a name that has been used by various villains in Blue Beetle stories. The first was an unnamed antagonist from the future who used a scarab created by The Reach, the same alien race that made the Khaji Da scarab worn by Jaime Reyes.

The scarab was also used by Jaime’s friend Paco Testas in the comics and an unnamed Reach warrior in Young Justice. We’re not sure which approach Angel Manuel Soto will choose for future movies, but it’s certainly something fans can look forward to.
Recently released, Blue Beetle has received positive reviews from critics, but it has struggled at the box office collecting only $25 million in its debut week. Note: It got 4.5 out of 5 stars here at CoveredGeekly regardless of its earnings, read our full review here.
Nonetheless, the mid-credit scene of the film has raised hopes that the Latino superhero has a future in the new DCU.
Blue Beetle’s DC Universe Future
While the Blue Beetle movie doesn’t overtly connect to the larger DC Universe, Soto has expressed optimism about the mid-credits scene. This scene might pave the way for the introduction of Booster Gold, one of Soto’s favorite characters.
Soto mentioned, “We all love Ted Kord and Booster Gold, and knowing that James Gunn also has plans for Booster Gold, it felt like the right thing for us to continue with.”
As the Blue Beetle movie concludes, it’s confirmed that Ted Kord, an earlier version of the superhero, is alive but facing potential danger. How this will unfold in the future remains uncertain.
Blue Beetle is currently playing in theatres, worldwide.
