Britney Spears’ self-audition tape for the classic romantic movie The Notebook has been released, revealing she originally auditioned for the role of Allie Hamilton – the role that ended up being played by Mean Girls star Rachel McAdams who starred alongside Ryan Gosling’s Noah Calhoun.
Spears had revealed in an extract from her memoir, The Woman In Me, that she auditioned for the McAdams’ The Notebook role: “The experience wasn’t easy for me. My problem wasn’t with anyone involved in the production but with what acting did to my mind.”
“I think I started method acting — only I didn’t know how to break out of my character. I really became this other person. Some people do method acting, but they’re usually aware of the fact that they’re doing it. But I didn’t have any separation at all.”

Spears’ self-tape screen test was then shared by casting director Matthew Barry, who shared it directly with The Daily Mail, while also calling Spears’ performance “phenomenal”.
He told the outlet that Spears bet other actresses testing for the role, some including Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Mandy Moore, Kate Bosworth, Claire Danes, as well as Amy Adams – all who also auditioned for the part.
“Britney wasn’t just good – she was phenomenal,” Barry told the outlet. “It was a tough decision. Britney blew us all away. Our jaws were on the floor. I was blown away – absolutely blown away. She brought her A-game that day.”
