Charlie Cox May Quit Daredevil Role If New Series Flops

We've had dark and gritty to light-toned and humorous, but what's next?

Charlie Cox May Quit Daredevil Role If New Series Flops

When Netflix revealed that they were producing a live-action reboot of the Marvel Comics character ‘Daredevil’, this sparked instant curiosity from fans all around the world. The debut of the first series completely reinvented what we had seen in Ben Affleck’s earlier take, becoming one of the most iconic comic-book adaptations of all time.

However, after many successful years of lore building and the universe expanding on Netflix with the Defenders saga, it all came to a devastating end in 2018 when it was announced that Netflix would be passing the rights to the MCU. Sparking campaigns such as the #SaveDaredevil petitions that garnered the attention of millions; even Charlie Cox.

Thankfully, the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home did something that we could only dream of, and introduced Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock to the big screen, officially making his character canonical to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then again Disney Plus’ She-Hulk series, shows a new light on the character with Cox delivering a lighter and more comedic version of Daredevil, which we hadn’t really seen before; and may not want to see again.

Charlie Cox Talks Daredevil Future

While speaking to NME, Charlie Cox got to share his thoughts on how the future of his Daredevil looks at the moment, telling them that “I could be busy for years, and I thought, ‘Yeah, maybe. Hopefully”. However, he continued to state that if ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ “doesn’t hit the spot, then that might be it.”.

Also, while talking to NME, Charlie Cox shared how he feels about the change of tone when it comes to his usually dark and gritty take on the street hero Matt Murdock.

“Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

Does the new series need to be as dark and gritty as the Netflix adaptation? Let us know your thoughts by following us on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, it is safe to say that the previous instalments prior to his joining of the MCU were perfect the way they were; so ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’ is one way to look at it.
