Taika Waititi has confirmed that he will not be returning to Marvel Studios to direct another Thor movie, however, Chris Hemsworth is in talks to return for a Thor 5 regardless of the fact.
Waititi is a busy director these days, with various projects in the works including a top-secret Star Wars movie that he describes as a “Taika Waititi film,” with a recent joke made by the director that it may “p*** people off”.

Now, in a recent interview with Inverse, Waititi has spoken out on the Thor franchise – an MCU movie series that the director has helmed two instalments of so far: Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Taika Waititi Says He’s Not Doing Thor 5
In the aforementioned interview, Waititi confirmed that he is not currently working on Thor 5, but that he had heard its titular star Hemsworth is in talks to make one with Marvel Studios / Disney.
Waititi explained to the outlet that he “needed a break from that,” as the director continued to explain that working on those movies is “a very draining process,” due to them requiring “two and a half years” of “nonstop” work.

Love and Thunder, the fourth Thor movie in the franchise, wasn’t as well received as its predecessors – especially as the franchise’s most praised instalment, which is Ragnarok.
However, Waititi told Inverse that he still has affection for the movie, and hasn’t ruled out returning to direct another MCU movie in the future: “It’s just about when I would be able to fit that in,” the director says.

However, despite its flaws, not all was lost as characters such as Brett Goldstein’s Hercules will most likely be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe one day – potentially in Thor 5.
What Could Thor 5 Be About?
Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson has had his fair share of battles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, even as his animated counterpart in the What If…? series — if you count that, which you should as he voiced that version of Thor too!
Thor 5 could, and should according to fans, at least include the aforementioned Hercules – a demigod from Greek mythology, fellow mythos to the Norse mythology that Thor belongs to.

Hercules is a character also used in the original Marvel Comics, which means there’s already source material to pluck from for another live-action Thor instalment.
Marvel Studios could potentially take inspiration from the latest God of War games and merge both mythologies even more, with Thor crossing over more into the Greek mythos with characters such as Russell Crowe’s Zeus – another Greek god that was introduced in Love and Thunder.

Hemsworth has been vocal many times in the past that he’s up for playing the character for as long as the studio will let him and the studio probably won’t want to stop making these movies anytime soon as he is one of the most beloved and successful MCU characters to date.
Fans will just have to wait and see what they cook up.
Thor 5 does not yet have a release date.
