Spoilers for the 2023 Ezra Miller DC movie The Flash are below.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ 2023 movie The Flash, starring Ezra Miller as the titular hero, may have had one of the most surprising ending out of all recent DC projects.
If you’ve seen the movie or been on social media since the movie’s release then you will most likely be aware of the fact that George Clooney returned as Bruce Wayne aka Batman during the stinger moment at the end of The Flash.
However, according to Kevin Smith, Warner Bros. actually wanted Christian Bale to reprise the role for the big reveal. Smith also revealed that the studio spent months asking for The Dark Knight Rises actor to return despite him saying no.
So, they were like ‘let’s pivot, let’s do another Batman’ and they just grabbed George Clooney [to reprise his adaptation of the character for The Flash].”Kevin Smith
What Does This Mean?
One question this raises is whether or not Warner Bros. Pictures just wanted a quick Bale-Batman cameo to drive more ticket sales or if they are/were interested in rebooting Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise starring Bale as the titular vigilante.
As of writing, there has been no word or announcement in regard to an attempt at reviving Nolan and Bale’s Batman universe. Even if there was, it’s possible that any plans such as this notion were scrapped when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over.
The newly planned DC Universe is currently set to introduce a completely new Bruce Wayne aka Batman sometime in 2025. The title is set to focus on the Batman storyline known as The Brave and the Bold and will most likely have a slightly older Bruce.
There has also been no word or announcement as to who will be playing the next live-action Bruce Wayne, besides Robert Pattinson’s version in The Batman movies.
The Flash is now playing in theatres worldwide.
