Disney revealed some exclusive footage of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy, with a full sneak peek of McCarthy’s rendition of ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ as Ursula, a classic track from the original animated version of the remake.
McCarty’s Ursula plays the main antagonist in the movie, just as it was in the original telling of the story, with Bailey playing the titular character, Ariel, and this new footage seems fairly identical in comparison to the original animated scene.
Disney’s CinemaCon Little Mermaid Footage
The footage revealed McCarthy’s Ursula and her villainous eels dancing around her evil lair, with Ursula’s tentacles being shown to be rather long with plenty of expressive movement, with Ursula singing ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ as she flares her tentacles around.
The footage also reveals the moment where Ursula offers Ariel the deal of becoming a human through the work of a magical spell to allow Ariel to walk the surface world, and yes, Ariel must sacrifice her voice if she fails to make it back to the ocean world.
The lair itself is visualised as being fairly dark in lighting, however, the colours that surround the dark setting are extremely vibrant and visually stunning.
