Deep Silver’s Dead Island 2 recently announced the fourth character that will be playable in the game, this new character is called Dani who will star in the game alongside characters Ryan, Amy, and Jacob. However, Dani isn’t the last character reveal from the studio, as their website still states that more character details will be “coming soon”. The original announcement for Dead Island 2 was made all the way back in 2014, making this one of the longest-delayed games in the history of gaming, with the new release for the game also being delayed just a couple of months ago.
Since the 2022 announcement that the sequel to the 2011 zombie RPG Dead Island and later Dead Island: Riptide, details from the studio have been flooding onto the internet almost weekly, breaking their typical record of making fans wait years for any update. One consistent piece of information that is revealed every week is the new characters, details on their background, weapons they use, plus more to get players hyped for what’s to come. So, in light of there being quite a few characters revealed in the past couple of months, let’s dive into each one and break it all down in chronological order of when they were revealed.

Jacob
The first character to be revealed for the game was Jacob, who is the main character in the 2022 official trailer of the sequel and can be seen living the best post-apocalyptic life in a padded-out Los Angeles mansion. He is captioned as being a British BAMF with a unique outlook and a knack for carnage, credited with being a stuntman from London who loves a bit of Shakespeare and doing f*** all. Jacob’s main skills are “frenzy” and “critical gains”, which is presumably a special ability that can be used similarly to the original game.
Amy
Just a week or two after the reveal of Jacob from Dead Island 2, came the next character who goes by the name Amy, a champion runner who has gone from being ahead of the pack to rushing straight at it according to the details on the official Dead Island Instagram. Amy is described as an athlete from Los Angeles who loves being in the lead and absolutely hates losing, which makes for the perfect survivalist in the Dead Island universe. Her main skills are “relief pitcher” and “divide and conquer”, meaning that Kang from the MCU won’t be the only conqueror to debut in 2023.
Ryan
One of the two characters to be recently revealed by the game studio is a man called Ryan, who is described as a slayer with rock-solid abs and a heart of gold. Despite wearing a shirt that is labeled as a Los Angeles fire department uniform, Ryan is actually an exotic dancer – which still makes sense – from Fresno who is credited as being a loving brother and hater of exercising for fun. Ryan’s skill set will be both “retaliation” and “seesaw”, being a great zombie slasher as proved in the clip shown for the character.
Dani
The newest addition to the character reveals is Dani, who was only announced a few days ago prior to writing this news article, and is credited as being a rockabilly brawler with a knack for fecking up zombies. Dani was a retail assistant from County Cork before the zombie apocalypse, who loves breaking the rules and talking to her family. Her main skills include both “thunderous” and “bloodlust”, who seems to love her new job as a zombie fighting rockstar. Deep Silver is currently set to debut more characters in the upcoming months, so keep your eyes peeled to see who else you will be able to play as in Dead Island 2.
Carla
“Carla is a motorcycle stunt rider unfazed by rings of fire, jumps over ravines, and mid-air flips, so the zompocalypse has barely made her break a sweat. Armed with street smarts, an outgoing disposition, and boundless physical confidence, she’s embraced the challenges of slaying her way through HELL-A with enthusiasm.”

Bruno
“Bruno is a calculating hustler who always has a plan, both for pulling off heists on big-time scammers and spammers before the zompocalypse and for taking down the undead now. Born and raised on the streets of LA, he’s always hidden his lethal knife skills behind his disarming Californian charm. Those skills ensure that his targets won’t talk about Bruno – no, no.”
