Daisy Ridley has spoken out on how she would feel if asked to return as Rey in the Star Wars universe, with her last appearance being four years ago in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Although the fan reception of the new Star Wars trilogy wasn’t as positive as Lucasfilm may have hoped for, the franchise still has more successful installments such as their various streaming shows on Disney Plus.
Shows such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming Ahsoka series plus the various other projects in the pipeline have had a great level of hype from the Star Wars community. There has also been a few appearances from legacy characters like when Luke Skywalker made his grand entrance in the second season of The Mandalorian, increasing the potential for other characters to at least get a cameo in future projects.

Daisy Ridley Doesn’t Rule Out Returning To Star Wars

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daisy Ridley was asked about the rumors that her character is involved with the recently reported Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stand-alone sequel. It was reported last October, in 2022, that writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson are working on a post-Rise of Skywalker movie with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy set to direct.
When asked about this, Daisy Ridley insisted that she doesn’t know anything about the project, telling The Hollywood Reporter “I really don’t know if there are plans. I just don’t know”.
However, Ridley continued to add that if offered to ever return to the role, she would be more than up to take on the part of Rey in the Star Wars franchise once again.
“But ultimately, I loved my experience, I loved what I got to do and I love the people I got to work with. So, should that happen again, even once, amazing.”

Why Fans Want Rey To Return To Star Wars

It is common knowledge in the Star Wars fan community that the final installment in the latest trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, faced extreme backlash from lovers of the franchise. It has been said by many that the characters just weren’t given the true justice that a finale should have treated them to, one of them being Daisy Ridley’s Rey more than most.
Bringing legacy characters back to massive franchises, such as how the Marvel Cinematic Universe brought back multiple legacy actors to reprise their roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home has worked in the past to redeem their previous adaptations. Andrew Garfield, for example, managed to bring closure to both the fans and skeptics of his The Amazing Spider-Man movies due to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The same could potentially be done with certain characters from the Star Wars universe, with the possibility that Rey could continue her story arc and give the team a chance to redeem the character.
