A sequel to The Batman was first announced during Warners Bros’ CinemaCon presentation last year, and Robert Pattinson as well as Matt Reeves were confirmed to be returning for the sequel. Later in 2022, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin were confirmed to be screenwriters for the film.
Production Weekly Issue 1352, released on Thursday, June 1st, featured a listing for DC’s The Batman Part II, which was previously scheduled to begin production in November, as per The Batman executive producer Michael Uslan.
The listing stated that the sequel is now slated to begin production in March 2024 in London, UK. It was not stated why the delay occurred, but it is very likely that the WGA strike is responsible for this. A production-end date was not listed.
Will ‘The Batman Part II’ Get Delayed?
The delay may be major, but there is still more than enough time for production and post-production. Between March 2024 and the scheduled October 2025 release date, the crew has almost a year and a half to finish principal photography and do post-production work.
For comparison, The Batman began principal photography in January 2020 and ended production in March 2021, lasting for about one year and 2 months. Note that the Covid-19 pandemic is to blame for the lost production schedule, and the sequel has the benefit of not facing a global pandemic.
Since Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin (who are scribing the film) are members of the Writers Guild of America, and were seen on picket lines of the strike; it is obvious that the script will only progress once the strike ends.
The Batman Part II is slated to release in theaters on October 3, 2025.
