When it was revealed that Hugh Jackman would return as Wolverine in the third Deadpool film, fans of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine were super excited. However, there were also concerns about whether the storyline from James Mangold’s beloved movie, Logan, would be acknowledged. But now Shawn Levy has confirmed that Logan is part of the official continuity.
In a recent interview on BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast, director Shawn Levy said that Hugh Jackman’s last portrayal of Wolverine in the 2017 movie Logan is part of the story for Deadpool 3. He likes Logan and promised that the new Deadpool movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will include and recognize what happened in Logan.
Logan is Confirmed To Be A Part Of The Official Continuity.
Shawn Levy said:
“I have always said that I can’t wait for Deadpool 3 to come out because all I want to do is give interviews alongside Ryan where we talk about our reverence for the movie Logan,” Levy said. “Logan is canon. We love Logan. That happened. I want the world to know, as the producer and director, all of us share a deep love and respect for Logan, every aspect of how it’s crafted, and all the events that take place.”
In September 2022, it was revealed that Hugh Jackman would be returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. This news came five years after he retired from the role, which he had played since the 2000 film X-Men. Jackman’s decision to return was influenced by his friendship with Ryan Reynolds and his love for the 2016 movie Deadpool.
Deadpool 3 Might Get Delayed
Deadpool 3 is currently scheduled for a May 3, 2024 release.
However, director Levy remains uncertain about whether the film will be fully prepared for this date. He shared in the same BroBible interview “I wish I knew. I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3…We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”
Featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Jennifer Garner, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapičić, Rob Delaney, and Matthew Macfadyen. The writers of the franchise, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are returning, with Zeb Wells working on the script based on an earlier draft by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.
Deadpool 3 is set to hit theatres sometimes in 2024.
