Listen to Diddy’s The Love Album: Off The Grid above via Spotify.
It has been a long seventeen years since the previously named Puff Daddy released his solo project, 2006’s Press Play.
Diddy’s high-profile reputation as an R&B legend is amplified by the star-studded features on his latest album. It consists of other R&B house names like; The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, H.E.R., John Legend and more that all feature on the 23-track album.
This album marks the first release under his new label, Love Records.
In a press release, Diddy stated, “Music is my first love, and music has given me a second chance at life, so stepping back into the studio to make this album has been a soulful experience that brought me closer to myself and my purpose.”
He also stated that this album isn’t to feed into current trends but to shape the future of R&B.
In an interview with Billboard, he goes on to say, “It’s probably one of the biggest collections of talent ever, all unified on one album. And I happen to be blessed to have The Weeknd’s last feature.”
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, revealed at a concert that his new song with Diddy, “Another One of Me,” is the final feature of his career.
Brought My Love Featuring The-Dream and Herb Albert
The album kicks off with the first features, which brought my love kickstarting what the album is for and what it entails.
The lyrics share that “they don’t do this no more” and “on the phone too much”, a comment on society and the changing influence of modern music.
Stay Awhile with Nija
Track 4 continues the melodious theme of love and classic R&B vocals. In the second verse Diddy reclaims that he is “the greatest rapper that ever lived”, an opinion that many will agree the music mogul is.
Another one of me with French Montana Featuring The Weeknd and 21 Savage.
The first verse by The Weeknd is reminiscent of his own Call Out My Name. The title of the song indicates how they are one of a kind, and no one else will be around like them.
When listening to the drums that shift the verse to the chorus, they mimic those in Phil Collins’ In The Air Tonight, a distinctive instrumental piece.
The last verse is what seems to hit the hardest, where the lyrics “sometimes you gotta go through the dark to manifest” are repeated.
Moments featuring Justin Bieber
Bieber’s skilful vocals are showcased in the 11th track from the love album, with the powerful buildup to the chorus and Diddy’s verse.
This track is definitely an instant add to playlists, with catchy lyrics and a head-bopping melody.
Boohoo featuring Jeremih
The perfect song as we begin to settle into autumn, the vibe of the album really shining through on this more chilled, dazed song.
Jeremih’s voice alongside the upbeat yet casual instrumental makes for a bright tune that resembles summer days and relaxed nights.
In a recent tweet asking fans what they think, Diddy received positive feedback with fans saying the album is a “vibe” and has “not a single skip.”
