Disney and Marvel Studios execs, such as Bob Iger, reportedly teamed up recently to have a big discussion about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe amidst its continuing downfalls at the box office.
As shared by Variety, details of these discussions included things such as the ongoing legal issues that currently surround Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki season 2 star, Jonathan Majors.
Including discussions that Majors’ big bad Avengers-level villain role as Kang the Conquerer may be pivoted to Marvel fan-favourite baddie Doctor Doom instead.
Disney Discussing Bringing Back Dead Avengers
Additionally, it was also shared that the studio execs are tinkering with the idea of bringing back the “original gang” aka the six Avengers who teamed up during the expanding franchise’s first phase.
These included Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Captain America.
Downey Jr. and Johansson’s MCU characters both died during the latest Avengers movies, with Evans’ Captain America being shown to have passed the torch to Anthony Mackie who will lead the next Captain America movie Brave New World.
Despite at least half of the original Avengers team being out of the picture, Variety shared that “this would include reviving” them as huge key players such as these have been brought back in the comics with storylines such as the multiverse (the MCU’s current phase).
Although the studio bosses have discussed the possibility of developing an Avengers movie that features all six original team members, Variety reports that they haven’t “committed to the idea” yet.
