Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behavior in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
We received a first look at the series in May 2022, and just one year later, we have a release date set for the series.
During Disney’s live Upfront presentation, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that all six episodes of Echo will premiere on Disney+ on November 29 this year.
A trailer for the series was also shown during the presentation. It is unclear if the trailer was the same as the one shown during 2022’s D23 Expo presentation.
According to @PhotosByBeanz on Twitter, the trailer for Echo ended with a shot of Kingpin with his “eye wound”. This is, of course, to maintain continuity with Hawkeye, in which Maya Lopez shoots Wilson Fisk in the face.
This makes Echo the only MCU Disney+ series to be released as per the “binge” model, all episodes being released on the same date.
How Does This Affect Disney’s Release Format?
Up till now, all of Disney Plus’ major releases (Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios) received weekly episodes, with the exception of I am Groot and Star Wars: Visions.
Earlier this year, The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Loki season two and the Samuel L. Jackson-led Secret Invasion were the only “sure bets” to release this year, while Echo was unlikely to meet its mid-2023 release.
That would’ve been true if Disney proceeded to release weekly episodes, but now that Echo is being released in its entirety, this opens a whole world of opportunities to keep the release schedule consistent without the “franchise fatigue”.
All six episodes of Echo are set to premiere on Disney+ on November 29. You can see what else was announced by Marvel during their Upfront presentation here.
