Rocky and The Expendables action icon Dolph Lundgren has revealed to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet that he has joined Netflix’s The Witcher universe for an upcoming spinoff currently being filmed in South Africa. His role remains undisclosed along with details as to which show he’s currently filming for.
Despite the only reveal being that Lundgren has joined Netflix’s The Witcher-verse, it has been speculated that he is filming for the upcoming spinoff about a group of thieves from Andrzej Sapkowski’s original novels who call themselves the Rats. Collider noted that Lundgren may be starring as the spinoff’s main antagonist due to the fact that the Rats are a group of teenagers and generally young members.
Regardless of who Lundgren is playing in the upcoming spinoff, it’s safe to assume that he may be making an appearance during the main series. Lundgren gave no hints as to who he’s officially playing in the spinoff, just that he’s definitely filming for it.
As mentioned, Lundgren has been speculated to be starring as the main antagonist to the Rats, a ruthless bounty hunter known as Leo Bonhart. Freya Allan’s Ciri has crossed paths with Bonhard on several occasions, further fueling the speculation of Lundgren’s casting.
Henry Cavill stars one last time as Geralt of Rivia, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role for Season 4. This could potentially mean that Lundgren’s character may first interact with Hemsworth’s version of Geralt unless a surprise Season 3 appearance awaits fans.
The Witcher Season 3 releases exclusively on Netflix in two parts. Volume 1 comes to Netflix on June 29 then Volume 2 debuts on July 27, 2023.
