Spoilers for Fast X inside.
Dwayne Johnson will officially be returning as Luke Hobbs in a newly announced Fast & Furious movie at Universal Pictures. The new movie will be a Hobbs-focused movie and will not be a sequel to the spinoff Hobbs & Shaw. It will also not be a spinoff at all. The movie will be a direct sequel to Fast X serving as a bridge to Fast X: Part II.
As many Fast & Furious fans will know by now, Johnson already made his official comeback as Hobbs during the post-credit scene of Fast X. The setup seems to be that Johnson’s character has business to settle with Jason Momoa’s Dante.
Johnson took to Twitter to confirm the news on June 1. See below for a full breakdown of what he had to say, along with reactions to watch theatre audience reactions to the Fast X post-credit scene, how he settled his differences with Vin Diesel, and his tease for what’s to come next in Hobbs’ Fast & Furious journey.
Dwayne Johnson Confirms Hobbs’ Return
“Just tapping in with you guys and delivering a little information, long-awaited information. You guys have been waiting for over a week now for me to confirm so I am 100% confirming to you guys around the world that yes, it is true, Hobbs is back.
Hobbs is back in the Fast & Furious franchise (…) but before I get into the why and the how I was able to pull this off and get together with Vin [Diesel] (…) before I get into that, let me just say that it has been so incredibly personally gratifying and satisfying and humbling and exciting to see your reactions around the world. First of all the secret of Hobbs being back in the Fast & Furious franchise, that was a secret that was hard as h*ll to keep and you guys know me and you know my operating motto and Seven Bucks Productions which is always audience first, fans first.”
Reaction To Fans Reaction
“It has been so cool to see your reactions around the world of Hobbs returning. The messages that I’ve gotten, the videos that I have seen in theatres (laughs) all around the world and you guys erupting when Hobbs is revealed at the end [of Fast X]. (…) I loved it and I love you guys, thank you for that incredible reaction.”
Settling Differences With Vin Diesel
“Despite us having our differences, me and Vin [Diesel] (…) we’ve been like brothers for years and despite having our differences. When you lead with the idea of, number one resolve, but also you just think about the future and you think about plans that are much bigger than ourselves. Those bigger plans are the bigger buildouts, those bigger plans are the North Star, as I like to say.”
Momoa’s Dante Vs. Johnson’s Hobbs
“It’s not even unfinished business between Jason Momoa’s character, who did a great job by the way with his character Dante. It’s not even unfinished business between Dante and Hobbs. It’s business is about to pick up, oh sh*t (laughs) business is about to pick up.
If you thought that The Rock versus “Stone Cold” Steve Austin headlining three Wrestlemania’s, if you thought that was Earth-shattering, well wait till you see what happens when Dante and Hobbs collide.”
