Ed Boon Teases Upcoming 'Mortal Kombat 12' Announcement, Debunks Recent Rumours

Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, teased today Wednesday, May 17, that fans should expect something Mortal Kombat-related to be announced this week, with this new update coming shortly after he seemingly debunked recent rumours in regard to the next instalment’s title.

Posting to Twitter “THIS WEEK SHOULD BE FUN [Dragon Emoji]”, fans are now speculating that the first official trailer for Mortal Kombat 12 might just be coming out this week, however, a specific date has yet to be revealed, leaving the window open from today May 17 to Sunday, May 21.

However, this announcement contains on specifics as to what it will be for, with others speculating that the upcoming reveal may be for the live-action sequel to the 2012 Mortal Kombat movie.

Ed Boon Debunks Recent Title Rumours

Last week, Boon took to Twitter on May 12 to seemingly debunk recent rumours that Mortal Kombat 12 will be titled Mortal Kombat 1, along with the various other reports that have been flooding the web as of late, as he shared a YouTube video shooting down the rumours.

Ed Boon Teases Upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat’ Announcement, Debunks Recent Rumours

With this new update from the game’s co-creator, it could be safe to assume that any rumours seen recently are all hocus, which technically hasn’t been confirmed by Boon, as he said on Twitter “Great video by @unCAGEDgamez shootin’ down the rumors!”

The video itself features popular YouTuber unCAGEDgamez sharing a rant about false “exclusives” being shared about the franchise’s upcoming instalment, a rant that Boon seems to agree with.

NetherRealm Studios’ 2023 Mortal Kombat game is set for a late 2023 release.
