Emily Blunt fans are taking to the comment sections of various social media platforms in outrage after watching a resurfaced interview where the Devil Wears Prada actress “fat shames” a waitress she once met.
During the resurfaced interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, Blunt reminisces about a time when she met an American waitress who recognised her while serving her at a Chili’s restaurant.
The conversation begins with Ross saying “When you go to Chili’s, you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous! I ordered a starter once and it was like four mini-burgers, and they were as big as proper burgers!”
Blunt responds by bringing up a memory about a waitress she met at a Chili’s who she also describes as being “enormous”, moments before joking that the waitress perhaps “got [free] meals at Chili’s.”
Emily Blunt’s Response
Emily Blunt responded in a statement provided to People that she was “appalled” when rewatching the resurfaced interview footage.
“I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.”
“I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for.”
Emily Blunt Fans React
As mentioned, Blunt’s fans are taking to the comment sections of social media apps such as TikTok and more to express their responses to the resurfaced footage of the actress “fat shaming”.
One commenter writes: “Wow. Fat shaming” Emily Blunt’s true colors are awful.”
Another took to say: “Imagine the waitress having told everyone she met lovely Emily Blunt only to hear say *this* on TV.”
A fan of the actress writes: “Well I did like Emily Blunt… but she ruined it.”
One claims Blunt is “alw3ays criticizing Americans” as they took to write this about the actress’ resurfaced clip: “Emily Blunt is always criticizing Amercians even her husbands [John Krasinski] style as well as her kids American accent. This was very very rude.”
Another social media user rhetorically asked, “her size mattered to the story because?”
