Welcome back to another edition of CoveredGeekly’s Fortnite – Reality Zero News!
It’s that time of year again and Fortnite is celebrating Halloween with it’s annual “Fortnitemares” event.
In previous years as part of the event, Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and Michonne from AMC’s The Walking Dead, Ash Williams from Evil Dead II, and Frankenstein’s Monster and the Mummy from the classic series of Universal movies all have come to the island as skins for the item shop.
Fortnite’s 2023 Fortnitemares Reveal
Beyond skins, there’s usually some kind of new or returning addition to gameplay added around this time of year, for instance, the always iconic Pumpkin Launcher, the Witch’s Broom, and various candies (usually acquired by trick or treating!)
To say this is gonna be a big event this year is a massive understatement, but an exciting one at that! For starters, the Pumpkin Launcher, the Witch’s Broom, and the candies are all back, as well as an all-new shotgun that shoots the bane of many a vampire’s existence, wooden stakes.
This is gonna be useful in putting a stop to the season’s big bad and enjoyer of the high life, Kado Thorne. And now, during Fortnitemares, when defeated Kado will drop a reskinned “Kinetic Blade” with a vampiric twist, upon acquiring the Vampiric Blade players will regain health when they damage players with this new monstrous saber.
But that’s not even the half of it! For the first time since early 2021, Fortnite will be collaborating with Disney to add a character not from Marvel or Star Wars, but from one of their mainline properties.
Coming later this month is Jack Skellington, star of The Nightmare Before Christmas and he comes with his Santa disguise as an alternate style as well as his trusty ghost dog Zero as a back bling.
Jack Skellington’s bundle also comes with his infamous sleigh with a skeletal reindeer that he used to bring terror on Christmas.
This is unbelievably exciting, not just for seeing Jack in Fortnite, but for the potential of what other Disney characters could come next! Imagine, Jack Sparrow, Maleficient, Buzz Lightyear, Goofy, the possibilities are endless and I’m so interested to see how this develops.
The Pumpkin King didn’t come alone though, with him is the Butcher of Haddonfield himself, Michael Myers. Talk about doing the impossible, wow.
Michael, along with a lot of other horror characters such as Jason Voorhees, are in a confusing mess of legal limbo because many back in the day were developed by small studios and then bought out by larger ones.
But then other companies got the rights to use the look and name from earlier entries, so much like with Ash who had to explicitly be Evil Dead II Ash, this is explicitly the Halloween (1978) Michael with no alternate styles or the like.
Regardless it’s still really cool to see the Shape come to the island, he also comes with a fun emote where he plays the Halloween theme on a keyboard!
There was Michael, Jack, and then a third was written into this story of fright on this Halloween night. Yes, horror game hero and writer extraordinaire Alan Wake is coming to Fortnite sooner rather than later.
In anticipation of the soon-to-be-released Alan Wake 2, his design is pulled from his appearance in that title, rather than his design in the original.
In paying homage to his source material, he also comes equipped with his handy flashlight which is his harvesting tool, and unlike the rest of this eclectic blend of collabs, he’s also got a wrap!
This is gonna be one Halloween not to forget, and we’ll see you next time on Reality Zero News!
