This review contains no spoilers for Netflix’s Extraction 2.
Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake is back and this time he’s not holding back. Extraction 2 has everything that makes up a perfect action movie plus more from 21-minute-oners to beautifully choreographed fight sequences mixed with great storytelling.
Alongside Hemsworth includes the return of Golshifteh Farahani’s Nik Khan and Adam Bessa’s Yaz Khan, with new faces such as Idris Elba and Tornike Gogrichiani.
This movie may be full of loud explosions, chaotic car chases, and brutal fight scenes, among other typical action movie ploys. However, it is all done in ways that spark all the right emotional notes when watching, not one moment goes unappreciated.
Some sequences even go as far as to deliver what has never been seen before in past action flicks, from dangerous situations the characters find themselves in to even how people are killed off, no matter who they are, it’s going to shock you.
As mentioned, it’s clear when watching Extraction 2 that every little detail was spared no expense making for a movie that can entertain you no matter what part of the picture your attention wants to grab focus to.
It’s not often that a movie of this genre seems as fresh and original as Extraction 2, Tyler Rake is shaping up to be solidified as an iconic action character up there with fellow characters such as Rambo and John Wick.
Not every scene is full of intense and expensive action-filled chaos and the movie does take breaths of air to slow things down from time to time, however, the storytelling and character development still manages to keep you on the edge of your seat and is equally as intense as Tyler Rake gunning down a helicopter.
What Extraction 2 proves is that Tyler Rake is the best action character since John Wick and deserves just as many sequels, as long as they keep delivering the goods. Action movies need a good story, characters we want to invest in, and of course great action – Extraction 2 aces all of these elements and goes up and beyond to entertain.
4 out of 5 stars.
