The first look at some set footage from the It prequel series Welcome to Derry has been revealed online. The series is set to debut on MAX sometime in 2024 and is speculated to dive into the origins of Pennywise the Clown. It and It Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti returns to direct.
Fans of Muschietti’s remakes have shown hope online since the prequel’s announcement that Bill Skarsgård may return to play the titular character. However, Skarsgård confirmed during an interview with Jake Hamilton that he was not involved with the project as of two months ago while sending his best wishes to whoever is cast to star as the next Pennywise.
Welcome to Derry First Look Revealed
The first look set footage was shared online to TikTok by a user known as Mr. Will Wong. The TikTok video gave plenty of looks at various set pieces alongside a couple of cast and crew members. The various looks at the set offer familiar settings from Stephen King’s Derry such as the inclusion of the iconic “Jade of the Orient” restaurant that the Losers Club once were tormented in.
Welcome to Derry cast member Taylour Paige was also spotted on set or at least close by, Paige’s character has yet to be revealed but has been speculated to be an original character.
The iconic Paul Bunyan monument from the It story doesn’t seem to be standing in the town of Derry on set. However, a sign does state that the monument will be coming soon with a year that seems to read “Coming 1962” which would make sense seeing that the prequel series is set in the 1960s.
Finn Wolfhard’s Richie Tozier is chased by the giant monument during the events of the 2019 sequel It Chapter Two which was also in King’s original It novel.
