Blumhouse’s full synopsis for the live-action movie adaptation of the popular video game franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s was revealed online today, along with brand new details of both the plot and specific character information, with this news coming only days after Universal’s 2023 CinemaCon presentation.
Fans of the FNAF franchise have been itching for some new updates on the live-action adaptation, with many fans being left disappointed this week when discovering that Blumhouse offered no footage or information during their presentation at this year’s CinemaCon event, which has been speculated to most likely be due to the fact that the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie will also be releasing to streaming, with CinemaCon being specifically about theatrical releases.
Source, Marketing, Trailer Speculation
This new information comes from a popular YouTuber known as 3C Films, aka Cris Parker, who shared the news that the synopsis was revealed via recent movie surveys through an “app called Dave” being sent out by Blumhouse to gather marketing research in preparation for marketing the movie, potentially confirming that marketing for the live-action Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is set to begin soon.
It could be safe to assume that this new report not only reveals the synopsis for the 2023 title, but also that fans may be treated to some new promotional footage such as a teaser trailer, and/or the first official poster, with the first official image already being released not too long ago, and the news that Blumhouse has been gathering marketing research for the movie’s marketing campaign, plus the fact the title is set to release in only six months as of writing this, FNAF fans should expect some official upcoming reveals.
Parker states in his report that multiple sources have confirmed the synopsis.

Full ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Synopsis
See below for the full Five Nights at Freddy’s synopsis.
“From producer Jason Blum and based on the acclaimed video game series of the same name [Five Nights at Freddy’s]. In this supernatural horror film, Mike Schmidt (Hutcherson) is a troubled security guard who starts a seemingly easy overnight gig at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, the local family entertainment center.”
“Struggling to take care of his ten-year-old sister Abby (Rubio) on his own, the generally undependable Mike is low on options when he lands this new job to pay the bills, and bring her along to the gig. Mike quickly realizes, however, that the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be as kickback as he was thinking after he makes a disturbing discovery that the pizza place’s four horrifying animatronic mascots all apparently come alive, moving about on their own as they hunt down and attempt to kill anyone that is still at Freddy’s after midnight.”
“Now, Mike and Abby must do everything they can to keep themselves alive through the night. But after local police officer Vanessa Monroe (Lail) arrives and quickly finds herself thrust into the middle of this terrifying situation, she is able to shed light on the dark history and inner workings of Fazbear Entertainment and its nefarious co-founder William Afton (Lillard)- a man who it turns out is a child murderer, with their ghosts now haunting the animatronic creatures.”
“And now, Mike, Abby and Vanessa must find a way to all work together if they are to have any chance at surviving this increasingly deadly night. With animatronic characters by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.”
New Details Revealed
When it comes to the live-action adaptation of the FNAF games, Blumhouse has been keeping anticipating fans waiting on the edge of their seats for new details, with plot information being kept tightly under wraps, it’s safe to say that this new synopsis will be a sigh of relief for most especially due to the fact that the details revealed are very spoiler-friendly, as it contains only a non-spoiler description of the movie.
The first new detail revealed in the synopsis is that Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt will be bringing his sister Abby with him on the job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, due to being what sounds to be like her responsible guardian, as the synopsis states that Hutcherson’s character takes care of her “on his own”.
Alongside that first detail is the reveal that Piper Rubio, who has already been confirmed to be amongst the cast, will be playing Abby, Mike Schmidt’s sister, a detail that has yet to be added to the movie’s official IMDB page. Interestingly, Hutcherson’s Schmidt is revealed to be the son of William Afton in the game series, who is the main antagonist played by Matthew Lillard in the live-action adaptation. Schmidt’s sister, who will now be called Abby, is also one of Afton’s children.
Speculation has it that Hutcherson’s Schmidt won’t be aware of his heritage quite yet due to the fact that he has brought his little sister directly to Afton’s evil HQ.
The second detail to be revealed is the full character information for Elizabeth Lail’s Vanessa, with the synopsis confirming the surname of Vanessa which is Monroe, a police officer who ends up tangled up with Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt and Rubio’s Abby, who all team up to survive against the four evil animatronics created by Afton himself.
Lail has been speculated in the past to be playing the live-action Vanessa, aka Vanny, from the Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach video game, a character who is also a security guard while also baring resemblance to that of a police officer, with Lail playing a police officer, this might just be the confirmation that fans have been hoping for.
