Giancarlo Esposito Says He “Knows” He’ll Join Marvel or DCU Someday

Giancarlo Esposito is a protean actor who has gained recognition for his portrayal of Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, along with his role as Moff Gideon in the first three seasons of The Mandalorian.

Moreover, he is no stranger to DC Comics-related content. He has voiced Lex Luthor in Harley Quinn, and he previously lent his voice to Black Spider in the animated film Batman: Assault on Arkham. 

Although he hasn’t taken on a live-action role in the Marvel or DC Universe yet, Esposito believes that it’s something that will happen in the near future.

Giancarlo Esposito is Joining The DCU?

On X, a user shared a video featuring Esposito during a Q&A session at Comic-Con Panamá.

When Esposito was asked about the possibility of him joining the DC Universe, he confirmed that he’s been in talks with Gunn about the idea.

Here’s what he had to say (via @swshriv):

“I had been talking to James Gunn about the possibility of being in a movie, so who knows, it could happen soon.”

His remarks at the convention suggest that it’s not a question of if he’ll join a DC project but rather when. 

Esposito’s versatility as an actor makes him a strong candidate for various DCU roles, whether it’s embodying iconic characters like Martian Manhunter or portraying essential villains like Lex Luthor, Mr. Freeze, or even Brainiac. The possibilities for him in the DCU are truly diverse and exciting.

Giancarlo Esposito Wants To Play a Superhero

The X user who shared the video mentioned that Esposito is aware that fans consider him a fitting choice for roles like Professor X, Magneto, and Mr. Freeze within the X-Men universe.

However, he reportedly expressed a preference for portraying a superhero rather than a villain, effectively ruling out the Magneto and Mr. Freeze roles. 

In the Past, Esposito has also expressed interest in playing Professor X in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Regardless of whether he becomes a part of the DCU or MCU, Esposito has a busy schedule ahead in the next couple of years.

He recently lent his voice to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie, and next, he is set to star in the Russo Brothers’ The Electric State and the controversial project Megalopolis from Francis Ford Coppola.
