Helen Mirren has revealed to the public that she broke her finger while doing a stunt sequence for the Shazam sequel, Shazam Fury of the Gods, but continued on as normal as if nothing had happened. Mirren will be starring as Hespera in the upcoming DC movie, the eldest daughter of the greek titan Atlas, with Hespera being the goddess of immortality. It is currently unclear as to whether or not fans will get to see Zachary Levi stay on to play Shazam amidst the new DC plan being brought to the table by James Gunn and Peter Safran, however, Levi has been vocal during the transition that he has high hopes to continue Shazam’s story.
In a recent interview on The Graham Norton Show, Mirren revealed that she broke the pinky finger on her left hand, showing to the audience that her two pinky fingers are now visibly different in comparison. Norton started this conversation by asking Mirren “So, do you do all the stunts, do you – the flying?”, to which Mirren responded with “I don’t do all the stunts, but I did some of the stunts, I have my Shazam finger” while holding up her hands to better show her now healed finger. While holding up her two hands, Mirren compares the two fingers by saying “Can you see that one [BROKEN FINGER], it’s sort of bent and that one is straight – the little finger – I’m talking about the little finger, that’s my Shazam finger.”
Helen Mirren Kept Her Shazam Accident Secret
Norton asked Mirren how she actually broke her finger, to which Mirren answered by saying “I broke it on one of the stunts, but, I was incredibly brave and I didn’t say anything, because – I wanted to be a real ‘stunty’ person, you know, ‘stunty’ I’m ‘stunty’. So, I didn’t complain”.
However, Mirren continued to discuss the matter of stunts, later expressing her gratitude for those who work in the stunts area of filmmaking, telling Norton “I didn’t do all my own stunts, far from it, we have these incredible stunt people, they are extraordinary”.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods comes to theatres on the 17th of March, 2023.
