For everything hyper-violent about it, Invincible is hitting back with a second season coming in just a few days. The colorful, yet tonally bleak superhero series follows Mark Grayson, a young half-human-alien hybrid who’s trying to understand his superpowers in the midst of a murder mystery involving his dad, Omni-Man.
The show’s first season started off uncertain in its first three episodes, with its many storylines convoluting the overall plot. However, Invincible‘s viciously gory action sequences reeled fans back in with an epic climax that no one was ready for. Now, with Season 2 ever closer, the show hopes to one-up itself by following closely to Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s work.
Here’s a rundown of what we know about the upcoming second season of Prime Video and Skybound North’s Invincible series.
Invincible Season 2’s Plot Details
To recap the events of the first season, Mark Grayson got a brutal beating from Omni-Man after discovering his betrayal and murder of the original Guardians of the Globe.
In addition, Omni-Man left Earth, the Sequids took over Mars, the Mauler Twins were imprisoned by the GDA, Cecil’s been reconstructing the ReAnimen, and Allen met with Mark to discuss a greater cosmic power planning to take down the Viltrumite Empire. However, Mark’s decided to take his life one step at a time while trying to find the balance between being normal and being a hero.
The official synopsis of Invincible Season 2 is as follows:
Invincible revolves around 18-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age—except his father is (or was) the most powerful superhero on the planet. Still reeling from Nolan’s betrayal in Season One, Mark struggles to rebuild his life as he faces a host of new threats, all while battling his greatest fear – that he might become his father without even knowing it.
For fans of the comics, Invincible Season 2 is likely adapting several of Kirkman, Walker, and Ottley’s storylines including the rise of Mark’s interdimensional rival, Angstrom Levy, from Invincible #32-34, Omni-Man’s change of course in #25-29, and the Martian-Sequid threat from #39-41.
