Superman’s origin story has been retold countless times throughout the last few decades, if not more, such as in The CW’s Smallville and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy on the other hand will potentially be skipping the rehashed origin story and diving straight into the action.
Superman: Legacy Will Have No Origin Story?
Gunn took to Bluesky Social to seemingly confirm that his Superman movie, starring David Corenswet as the caped hero, won’t be adapting the hero’s origin story.
When suggested by a user named Eric Metelka to “use the opening two pages of all star Superman” for the Corenswet-led Superman origin. Gunn repsonded by saying that “we’ve seen his origin enough in film at this time!”

Leaving DC fans to speculate that this is a clear indicator that Superman: Legacy will indeed be diving straight into the post-events of Superman arriving to Earth after being sent from a dying Krypton by his father Jor-El.
Why This Would Be A Good Decision
When it comes to origins for superhero movies, most have typically been told multiple times throughout the age of Hollywood.
Such as Marvel’s Spider-Man which was told in both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s adaptations of the character.
Which later was skipped entirely in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, a decision to this day that is still deemed genius.

Superman’s origin story has been rehashed countless times this century alone across various adaptations in both film and television.
Skipping Superman’s origin story as to how he arrived to our planet and the rest would allow for the movie’s main plot to be further spread out.
As above mentioned, Corenswet has officially been cast as the titular Man of Steel aka Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan who stars as Lois Lane.
As to whether or not Gunn will be implementing this notion has yet to be fully confirmed. Stay tuned for further updates at @DCU_Covered.
