The Hollywood Reporter has shared news about James Gunn and Peter Safran’s recent cast testing for the 2025 DCU movie Superman: Legacy.
As expected the current selection process is for the movie’s main characters including its titular one who still has yet to have been given to anybody.
THR shared a scoop as to which actors were paired during the testing to see who works best together as Clark Kent aka Superman and Lois Lane.
Recently shared names to be in the running for Superman still includes X-Men: First Class star Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, and David Corenswet.
In the running for Lois Lane, as also recently reported, still includes Rachel Brosnahan, Phoebe Dynevor, and Emma Mackey.
See below for who got paired with each other to film test scenes as both Clark Kent and Lois Lane during the weekend of June 17.
Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan
According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources, all three pairs were seemingly put together and were put with nobody else.
Nicholas Hoult was reportedly paired with Rachel Brosnahan to film several test scenes together as an on-screen live-action Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor
Next on the reported list of pairings was Tom Brittney and Phoebe Dynevor who also reportedly filmed several test scenes together as Clark Kent aka Superman and famous DC journalist Lois Lane.
David Corenswet and Emma Mackey
Last to be mentioned out of the three reported pairings was that of David Corenswet and Emma Mackey, two popular names across the fandom since the original list of names was shared online.
All pairings were most likely provided the same set of scenes to film to allow for Gunn, Safran, and whoever else to judge equally.
Superman: Legacy Film Testing Details
Details of the test scenes filmed were shared by The Hollywood Reporter and it sounds like the male actors were only in Clark Kent costume.
“They were given several scenes to film, in which the males were in makeup and wardrobe as Daily Planet reporter Kent while the females were plucky journalist Lane.”

It was also shared that Hoult, Brittney, and Corenswet were all called in to do another series of screen tests but this time in full Superman costume.
These additional Superman screen tests were done on the same weekend according to the new report from The Hollywood Reporter.
However, it is stated that only Mackey was called back in to once again test on screen as Lois Lane but this time with all three of the male actors.
But it is said that this was not because Mackey is in the lead to land the role, although it is unclear as to why she was the only one reported to return.
According to THR, Gunn may be making his final decision this week as to who will officially be playing the live-action Kryptonian and iconic journalist for the newly planned DC Universe at Warner Bros.
