Amid the ongoing Hollywood strikes, there were concerns about whether James Gunn‘s DC reboot would meet its previously reported 2024 release date. However, those worries have been put to rest by the new star, Frank Grillo.
Before the DC Universe’s cinematic journey begins with Superman: Legacy in 2025, it appears that the Super-powered animated series will kick things off, serving as a preview of what’s in store for the franchise.

Frank Grillo, the actor playing Rick Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, officially confirmed on Instagram (via Home of DCU) that the animated series is set to debut in 2024.
Creature Commandos Confirmed For 2024
Grillo posted a story on the platform confirming that Creature Commandos‘ 2024 premiere remains on track. Reinforcing Gunn’s recent statement about a possible delay, the actor wrote.
“No delay for ‘Creature Commandos.’ All ready to go as per James Gunn. I’m so pumped to see this.”
Because Creature Commandos is an animated series, work on the DC Universe’s first project wasn’t halted by the Hollywood strikes, allowing it to stay on course for its original release window.

Gunn had previously announced that the series was slated for a 2024 release on the Max streaming service. The production of this animated DC show appears to have been underway since as early as February 2023 when Gunn’s DC reboot was first revealed. Furthermore, by August 2023, all recordings for the series had been successfully wrapped up.
This suggests that fans might get to enjoy Creature Commandos sooner rather than later, and there’s even a possibility of it hitting screens in the first half of 2024.
What Creature Commandos Will Be About
Creature Commandos is a unique military unit composed of supernatural beings. Although the plot of Creature Commandos is being kept secret, it seems that Waller will assemble and lead them as a black ops team similar to the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
In the comics, the modern Creature Commandos were created by S.H.A.D.E., but it’s unclear if the show will include this organization or change the team’s origin to be linked with ARGUS. Fans are hoping that the show will feature Dinosaur Island, a concept from the older comics, where the underdog team explores an island filled with dinosaurs.

Additionally, both Steve Agee and Viola Davis are confirmed to return to their DCEU characters, John Economos and Amanda Waller, respectively, in Creature Commandos.
