Jamie Lee Curtis (Halloween, Everything Everywhere All at Once) took to Instagram yesterday to tease the long-anticipated sequel to Freaky Friday, a Disney body-switching movie she starred in alongside Lindsay Lohan in 2003.
Curtis’ latest social media post features herself by Lohan’s side captioned with: “Too late. YOU GREW UP and SO BEAUTIFULLY! Well, it’s Friday, and the strike is over so hopefully, we can switch places again in the near future!”
She then continued to tag Lohan and interestingly enough Disney, the studio behind the original Freaky Friday movie – which caused her comment section to instantly twig on that this is a direct tease for its sequel.
Notice the clever choices of wording such as “it’s Friday” and “hopefully, we can switch places again in the near future!”
Curtis has teased Freaky Friday 2 in the past, earlier this year in fact, she told Variety that the sequel is “going to happen”.
“Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”
This isn’t the first time that Curtis has taken to her social media accounts to tease the sequel either, as she took to Instagram back in February to tell her fans that “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!” – which also featured a photo of herself alongside Freaky Friday co-star Lohan.
To which Lohan responded by saying “‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”
Curtis’ latest Instagram post already has over 400,000 likes and over 4,000 comments, the majority of which are in support of a sequel being green-lit – that’s to say it hasn’t been set into motion already over at Disney.
It’s safe to assume that if the stars and the fans both want the sequel to happen, Disney will most likely make it happen – however, it’s currently unclear if the sequel would be aimed at a theatrical or streaming release.
It’s been said in the recent past that Disney is now focusing purely on their own IPs, and Freaky Friday being one of them means that it’s fair game to expect the sequel to happen sometime in the near future.
