News broke Friday, May 12 that Jensen Ackles’ Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters would not be going forward for a second season over at The CW Network, amongst other cancellations such as Kung Fu, and Walker Independence.
In response to the prequel series to Supernatural being cancelled, Ackles quickly took to Twitter to launch a #SaveTheWinchesters campaign, which is still ongoing as The Boys actor continues to post updates on a daily basis since Friday, May 12.
Ackles launched the campaign on Twitter on May 12 by sharing the cancellation news, with a caption that reads “Looks like we got work to do. #SaveTheWinchesters #spnfamily”, ‘spnfamily’ being a shortened version of ‘Supernatural Family’, a common term used to reference Supernatural‘s dedicated fanbase.
Shortly after the campaign launched, Ackles posted a video on Twitter that features himself plus The Winchesters cast members Drake Rodger who plays John Winchester, Meg Donnelly who plays Mary Campbell, Jojo Fleites who plays Carlos Cervantez, and Nida Khurshid who plays Latika, with a small cameo from fellow Supernatural star and wife to Jensen Ackles, Danneel Ackles – watch below.
Ackles and the cast of The Winchesters explain in the video tweet above that, with hope, the show may get picked up for a second season if fans make enough noise on the web using the #SaveTheWinchesters tag on their social posts, a method that has been known in the past to literally save a cancelled series.
“Alright, you know what to do, let’s blow the top off this thing and show what this fandom’s made of. Let’s find The Winchesters a new home because you know what? We’ve still got work to do.” says Jensen Ackles during the video above, confirming that if needs be, a new home for The Winchesters will be considered an option to revive the title for a second season.
Most recently, Ackles took to Twitter just 5 hours ago as of writing this article on Monday, May 15th to provide an update that reads “To all those helping us find this show a home. The response has been amazing. Let’s keep it up!!!”.
Misha Collins, who also starred in Supernatural alongside Ackles and Jared Padalecki, also took to Twitter on Sunday, May 14 to post a similar captioned post “We’ve got work to do. #SaveTheWinchesters”, with the post being a quote retweet to Ackles’ original campaign launcher.
The Winchesters has yet to be announced by the cast and crew as to whether or not a second season will be getting picked up, however, Ackles stays true to the cause and is remaining active in saving the series for a season 2, a series that prequels one of the most beloved shows of all time, Supernatural.
