Joker: Folie À Deux is directed by Todd Philps, and the screenplay is written by Scott Silver and Todd Philps. The movie features Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond and more actors such as Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey in undisclosed roles.
The sequel was first confirmed to be in development by writer-director Todd Philps in June last year, in an Instagram post, which confirmed the title as well. The movie began filming on December 10 last year, and we received a first look at the movie. The next look was officially shared on February 14 by Todd Philps on Instagram, which was a still of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.
The movie is currently under production, and while filming in Los Angeles, California, spectators shared a new look at the sequel; possibly spoiling a key moment from the film.
This image features a stunt double (certainly not Phoenix himself) clad in the Joker outfit, along with a black robe.
This set images focus more on the environment the scene takes place in. The first image is of a marquee with the word “CAMEO”, next to “DANISH ART FILMS”.
These images feature Gotham Police cars, and more images of the surrounding areas. A “The Gotham Times” truck is also visible, which ultimately confirms all the events to take place in Gotham City.
In the three differently-angled set videos, we see who looks like Arthur Fleck in “Joker makeup” being chased by a version of him wearing a clown mask, and another one wearing the full-on Joker outfit. We know that all of these videos are different takes of the same scene because the Gotham Police car only strikes Arthur in the third video, while in the first one, he merely stands in front of the car; and in the second one, he pretends to fall over.
Although we’ve seen him experiencing delusions and living in false realities in the first movie, this seems to be a higher form of hallucinations, and even stronger than ones we’ve already seen. Given that the movie is titled “Folie à Deux”, which translates to “Madness for two” in English, we can’t wait to see how Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn comes into play in this mind-bending ride.
Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to be released theatrically on October 4, 2024.
