Karl Urban shared a new image today September 3rd of himself at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix event, with the image revealing that he’s still sporting his Mortal Kombat 2 look.
The Lord of the Rings and The Boys star will officially be starring as the live-action Johnny Cage in New Line Cinema’s sequel to the highly successful 2021 Mortal Kombat movie.
News of Urban’s casting was originally shared by producer Todd Garner and later reaffirmed by fellow MK team members such as NetherRealm boss Ed Boon.

New Look: Karl Urban’s “Johnny Cage” Hair
In the image above, Urban can be seen with the same hairstyle as the one he had in the official Mortal Kombat 2 set image of the cast prior to the ongoing SAG strike.
Although this is just hair and doesn’t really mean anything, it could on the other hand imply that Urban is maintaining his “Johnny Cage” look to make up for lost production time once the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes come to a reasonable resolution.
If you haven’t heard, production for Mortal Kombat 2 is currently on pause as all of the cast and crew postponed filming in aid of the aforementioned strikes.
It’s currently unclear as to when the strikes will come to an end as the goal is to come to a fair pay and benefits resolution with the major Hollywood studios, something that has not yet been achieved as of writing this article.
Once the strikes are resolved, writers and actors will resume working on all postponed/delayed projects such as this one and many more.
Mortal Kombat 2 does not yet have a confirmed release date.
