Wanda Maximoff AKA The Scarlet Witch has had quite a journey in the MCU. From being a mere supporting character in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, to having her own show, WandaVision; to being the primary antagonist in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, she has been one of the MCU’s most impressive characters. After she seemingly died in the Doctor Strange sequel, Elizabeth Olsen and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige have spoken up about her fate.
Kevin Feige On The Scarlet Witch’s MCU Future
The mastermind behind the MCU, Kevin Feige, answered a question regarding Wanda’s death in an interview by Variety with this:
“There really is so much more to explore. We still haven’t touched on many of her core storylines from the comics. I don’t know that we saw her under rubble? I saw a tower coming down, and a little red flash. I don’t know what that means.”
As we saw in Multiverse Of Madness, Wanda destroyed the Darkhold in every universe, as well as the Darkhold castle in Earth-616. While it was implied that Wanda herself perished in the collapse of the castle, we never explicitly saw her under the rubble, which left her story open-ended for us geeks.
“I’d work with Lizzie for another 100 years if we could, anything’s possible in the multiverse! We’ll have to see.”
Elizabeth Olsen believes The Scarlet Witch is alive
While giving an interview for Variety’s Power of Women, Elizabeth Olsen talked about Wanda’s next step in the MCU. She was expecting Wanda to head towards “some sort of redemption”, confirming that Wanda is still alive in the MCU.
“Where I think Wanda is heading is hopefully towards some sort of redemption, I think she was on that road. I don’t think any of these characters are ever really gone, especially when you introduce the Multiverse to multiply all of our bodies in different other universes.”
She shared how she never felt the limitations when she played the same character for several years, by approaching storytelling in different ways.
“Something that playing Wanda’s taught me over the years is how many things and opportunities you can do with one character. It kind of breaks a feeling of limitations when you get to be with a character for so long and continue to change the narrative of how this character is used to tell story and so that kind of opens up how you think about how we can approach character and storytelling and challenging ways hopefully.”
