A live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is currently in the works. Following the success of Universal’s Super Mario Bros, Nintendo is moving forward with a live-action version of the beloved video game franchise, The Legend of Zelda.
Nintendo director Shigeru Miyamoto, who will also produce the live-action adaptation, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter). He mentioned that they have been working on a live-action version “for many years now.”
Miyamoto said, “We have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
Wes Ball is set to direct the live action version, known for his work on The Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The film is written by Derek Connolly, the screenwriter of Jurassic World, and produced by Miyamoto. Additionally, Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr. produce the film under their Oddball Entertainment banner. In 2023, Nintendo achieved a resounding success at the box office with the animated film Mario, starring Chris Pratt and produced in collaboration with Chris Meledandri’s Illumination. The movie soared past $1.36 billion in global box office earnings.
Beloved Nintendo Game Is Finally Getting A Live-Action Treatment
Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most cherished franchises, with its origins dating back to the first game released in 1986. Over the years, this series of fantasy-inspired games has revolved around the adventures of a young hero named Link. Link’s primary mission is to save the Kingdom of Hyrule and its princess, Zelda, who occasionally takes on a heroic role herself. The main villain is Ganon, a malicious character, who aims to gather all three Triforce pieces to gain ultimate power.
The games are famous for their groundbreaking storytelling and cutting-edge technology. Titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild from 2017 and its 2022 sequel Tears of the Kingdom are often regarded as some of the greatest video games ever made. So far, there have been 20 games in the main series.
There is no official plot, casting information and release date for The Legend of Zelda live-action movie, as of now.
