Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly set to begin production on their live-action Minecraft movie sooner than expected in the land of LOTR.
Kemps Film TV Video (KFTV) report that the live-action Minecraft flick is expected to begin production on August 7 of this year in New Zealand.
This would come as no surprise due to New Zealand’s beautiful landscapes most famously seen in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s original writings.
What is surprising is the fact that production is reportedly set to begin almost a whole two years before its scheduled release date.

If true, this means the studio is planning on having production finished miles ahead of its release in 2025 or they are potentially planning on moving its release forward by a fair amount.
However, this has yet to be officially confirmed by the cast and crew of the live-action adaptation of the still to this day popular video game.

What Is The Live-Action Minecraft Movie About?
As many Minecraft fans will expect, the live-action adaptation is set to throw its cast of characters and pit them up against the Ender Dragon.
The iconic final boss battle of Minecraft that when defeated technically means you have completed the whole game itself.
Despite, of course, being able to go back into your world and continue where you left off while also having the option to do it all over again.
It’s potential that the studio will be aiming for multiple Minecraft movies and may even introduce new original foes on top of the already large roster of iconic baddies from its never ending landscapes.
If production is truly set to begin in the next couple of months then it should be safe to assume some new updates from the project soon.
Such as new casting announcements, potential plot details, plus additional information as to what to expect – we’ll just have to wait and see.
The live-action Minecraft movie releases on April 4, 2025.
