James Gunn has quite a busy and exciting future in comic book projects. Only this year, he has been involved in 4 cape flicks! He has directed and scribed the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker. If directing The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wasn’t enough, he has been tapped along with Peter Safran to lead DC’s film, TV, and animation efforts as co-CEOs of DC Studios (which will replace DC Films).
Marvel Studios decided to release trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on consecutive days, giving Marvel fans a real treat. Alongside the trailer, Disney’s press release confirmed Yondu’s return to the MCU.
Disney Spoils Yondu Via Press Release
In an official press release by Disney, it was stated that Michael Rooker would return to portray the fan-favorite Yondu. He last appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, in which he sacrificed himself to save Peter. Here is what the press release stated:

Back in September, Twitter user @MCU_Facility shared a new batch of promotional artwork for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, featuring Yondu and the phrase, “Yondu Ruined Christmas.”

In the press release, Disney also included a synopsis for this Christmas special.
