The late Matthew Perry wanted Zec Efron to play him again in a ‘very special project’ after sharing roles with each other in 17 Again, a movie where Efron starred as a young Perry back in 2009.
People exclusively shared Thursday, November 2 that Entertainment reporter Athenna Crosby, who had been spotted dining with the late Friends star just one day before his death, told them that he “wanted to make a movie about his life and have a biopic made.”
Crosby also shared that Perry “wanted Zac Efron, who’s played him already to play him again because he said ‘he did such a good job’.”
As aforementioned, Perry and Efron both shared roles in 17 Again, where Efron not only played a younger version of the late star – but also the older version of Perry stuck in a young body due to a magical curse-like incident causing Perry’s character to revert back to his younger body.
In the movie, Perry plays Mike O’Donnell, a father and ex-husband who lives his later years full of regrets that ultimately make him miserable, causing him to focus less on the things that are truly important – life, family, and his friends.
Although the flick wasn’t overly critically acclaimed, the movie itself sat well with most audiences and later became a cult classic that is still rewatched by fans of the two actors to this day.
Matthew Perry sadly passed away on October 29 after being reported dead after an apparent drowning, the actor was found dead at his Los Angeles home. TMZ reported that day that no drugs or signs of foul play had been found, with details later being revealed that law enforcement officers had responded to a call at the actor’s address regarding his death.
A statement by Perry’s family was provided to People the following day: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
