Argylle is creating quite a buzz among audiences with its latest trailer. The action-comedy is still a few months away from its theatrical release, but Matthew Vaughn already has ambitious plans to make it a part of the wider narrative of The Kingsman Spy Movie Universe.
Matthew Vaughn reveals on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he has plans to build a larger Spy universe. The director further hints at the expansion of the Arygylle franchise and some potential crossovers in the future.
Matthew Vaughn Wants To Expand The Kingman Spy Universe
Check out Vaughn’s full quote below:
“Argylle, as I said, we’ve got the book coming out, and we have an Argylle 2 planned. So, there is a universe and what we’re trying to do with Marv is sort of Marvel to superheroes, we want to be spies as well. So we’ve got Kingsman on the right, Argylle’s on the left, and then we’ve got an idea for something in the middle as well. Then you’ve got these sort of competing franchises in a galaxy that one day might meet.”
Matthew Vaughn’s spy universe began with The Kingsman (2014). The film offered a fresh take on the spy genre, incorporating both comedy and action elements. While its sequel didn’t receive as much acclaim, it did succeed in expanding the universe in meaningful ways, most notably by introducing the American Statesman intelligence agency.
The Argylle trailer hints at a shared thematic core with The Kingsman which suggests that these two film series might come together in some way. This similarity in themes, which could involve elements like espionage, action, and the presence of a talented ensemble, opens the door to the idea of characters and stories from both Argylle and The Kingsman crossing paths or collaborating in future films.
Other than Arygylle, Matthew Vaughn is focused on The King’s Man sequel and he is also gearing up for Kingsman: The Blue Blood, which promises to bring closure to Eggsy’s story
Argylle has star-studded cast including Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston and Catherine O’Hara.
Argylle is slated to release in theatres on February 2, 2024 and will be available to stream on Apple TV +.
