Jennifer Garner will reportedly be returning to play Marvel’s Elektra for the first time in nearly twenty years in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds.

Garner first played the role in the 2003 Daredevil movie where Ben Affleck (Justice League) starred as the titular blind lawyer and masked vigilante Matt Murdock.
She then played the role for a second time two years later in a spinoff solo movie entitled the same name as her character Elektra, making Deadpool 3 her third official outing.
Jennifer Garner Is Playing Elektra Again
The Hollywood Reporter shared the news today July 7 that Garner has been cast as Elektra alongside Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool 3.
Since Disney now own all of the Fox-Marvel rights, this makes Garner’s upcoming return to the role at least adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this seems fitting due to the current multiverse saga.
Marvel Studios and the team behind Deadpool 3 have yet to comment on the THR report, however, further confirmation is expected to be released soon.
Garner’s Elektra Means More Universes Than Expected
Garner’s return to the role seemingly confirms that Jackman and Reynolds will travel to her respective Marvel Universe as Wolverine and Deadpool.
This could also hint toward an additional cameo from Affleck’s Matt Murdock aka Daredevil which has been speculated within the MCU fandom to be happening due to the various rumours circulating the web.
Judging by the new addition of Elektra, who comes from a franchise that didn’t go down too well with its original audience, it’s safe to assume that many more characters from the Fox-Marvel era will be popping up too.
MCU X-Men Debut Is Much More Likely Now
As mentioned, the fact that Deadpool 3 will indeed be adding cameos from the original Fox-Marvel era, it’s extremely safe to now assume that the original X-Men lineup will be making some sort of an appearance.
Patrick Stewart who starred as Professor X in the Fox-Marvel era of X-Men confirmed earlier this year that he and Ian McKellen have plans to return.
“Actually, it went very well. He did say something like [‘Hey, I would’ve done this!’], yes that’s true (…) But we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself. We’re… we [Stewart and McKellen] got plans.

It wouldn’t be right for Jackman to make his MCU debut as Wolverine without bringing along his fellow iconic X-Men co-stars.

Including the later younger set of cast members who portrayed the previous generation of X-Men, such as James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender.
One thing’s for sure, Deadpool 3 is going to be one the wildest multiverse storylines yet in the current saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Deadpool 3 is currently set to release on May 3, 2024.
