Liu who stars as the titular Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe also confirmed that the sequel is currently planned to release after one of the next Avengers movies.
When asked “What’s the status on Shang-Chi 2“, Liu kindly responded by saying he “was told it would follow Avengers” but that it keeps getting pushed “back due to circumstances behind” his “control”.
He shed some positive light on the situation by adding that he hopes “to have more concrete news” on Shang-Chi 2 “to share soon” to the world.
See below for a screenshot of Liu’s thread from his Instagram-Threads page.
As you can see, the general response from ourselves and fellow curious Threads users was to ask Liu as to which Avengers movie he was referring to.
So When Will Shang-Chi 2 Be Released?
Currently, there are two official Avengers titles planned to release in the upcoming years, The Kang Dynasty (2026) being the first and then followed by Secret Wars (2027).
The second Shang-Chi movie could potentially have been set to be produced and scheduled to fit in-between the next two Avengers movies, which would tie its plot nicely into Avengers: Secret Wars.
Such as when Captain Marvel was released after Infinity War but before Endgame to create somewhat of a bridge between the two MCU instalments.
However, due to the recent delays, which Lie referenced in his latest update to the matter, plans for the sequel could maybe take another turn as Marvel Studios plan ahead amidst the ongoing WGA writers’ strike.
Marvel Studios has yet to announce or confirm anything Shang-Chi 2-related in regard to its release date, so MCU fans will just have to wait until they do.
Shang-Chi 2 has not yet announced its official release date.
