Ever since Marvel introduced Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, fans had been theorizing about a possible Thunderbolts lineup with Val being the “Nick Fury” of the Thunderbolts. Our prayers were finally answered when Kevin Fiege announced a new MCU Phase 5 movie, which was titled ‘Thunderbolts’. The lineup featured the following characters-
- Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
- Ghost
- Red Guardian
- Yelena Belova
- Bucky Barnes
- US Agent
- Taskmaster
“You know, one thing in the Captain America film is that there currently is a world without the Avengers. Sam Wilson finds himself as Cap at a time where there’s not an organization of Avengers. But just because there’s not an organization of the Avengers doesn’t mean there’s not a group of superheroes in the MCU. Not a group, perhaps, as lofty as The Avengers but there’s a group and they’re called the Thunderbolts. The Thunderbolts are finally coming through the screen and they are a ragtag bunch. I think it lets you tell us all you need to know about the Thunderbolts when when beloved Winter Soldier is the most stable among them.”

After the presentation at D23 Expo, the cast of this movie went on to comment on the movie and what we could expect.
Sebastian Stan
“Well, listen, you know, these are my kinds of people. They look like a good troubled bunch, and maybe I know a thing or two about that, and I’m just really glad to be back and, I guess, join a team of some sort.”
David Harbour
“I was told I would get a new suit. And I don’t want to say the ‘F’ word, but I am really psyched about that. You watch Captain America and you see him in all of these different movies, and you see him the white star and the black star [on his costume.] I just want a full closet’s worth of suits, and I’m well on my way.”
“I think they are all difficult people, who have many weaknesses, and as you may know, when you put a bunch of people with various weaknesses together, there’s often drama and comedy.”
Hannah John-Kamen
“Well, she doesn’t like to be touched… So that’s going to be interesting. She’s quite socially, well, she’s not social. She was, she grew up in the van. So she’s never actually had human contact with anyone. So this is going to be interesting for Ghost to connect.”
How does the team come together?
“That is one of the the initial mysteries, I just made a joke about it’s like Dungeons and Dragons, where you meet in a tavern and it’s like there’s a dwarf drinking a beer and then there’s like an elvish figure over there, we all come together and then there’s this ghost… it’s not gonna happen like that, I don’t think. But I think that’s one of the mysteries of the movie is what is their relationship, and as you say, there is a lot of exciting things as you wrap up the next phase in terms of sort of what their part of the whole universe is in this random, chaotic way. So, you know, we can’t say too much at this point, but they’re an exciting introduction of this team together again, that’s going to be a lot of fun.”
