If you have watched the PlayStation Showcase, you will have seen the debut trailer for the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and are just as hyped as us and most likely are finding yourself asking questions like “What is this symbol?”… but not too worry we have answers.
Δ is the Greek letter for Delta so it’s called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, could this be the start of a new remake series by Konami for other games in the series? We sure think so.

The METAL GEAR OFFICIAL Twitter confirmed the true meaning of the symbol and why they chose it because “Delta means “change” or “difference” without changing structure” and it certainly would seem like there could be other remakes in the works if they chose this name, or at least we can hope, we would love to see a remake of the Tanker story from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty in particular.
They also announced that they will reproduce the game to be faithful to the original story and design while adding some new elements, we hope that they won’t deviate too much from the same playstyle that we had with the original, the only key difference (for some at least) is that we won’t have the pressure-sensitive buttons we had with the PlayStation 2 so it not going to feel the same, but we didn’t have that with the HD Collection versions either and it played just fine. We hope that they try to keep it as close as possible but we will also have to expect some deviation from the original style and gameplay to fit with modern standards.
In a press release given by the development team, they assure us that they are working hard to recreate a game faithful to the original story and design and mention a seamless user experience so we think that they are aiming for a true remake, which is wonderful news for anyone who holds this game close to their heart.

It will be new and different while also being nostalgic and familiar and may also allow those who may have never experienced any Metal Gear Solid game to experience it for the first time and returning players to experience it all again on the latest platforms.
“We thank you and sincerely appreciate your continuous support. Currently, the development team are working together to create an environment where fans can experience and enjoy the Metal Gear series on the latest platforms.
We are remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved installments of the Metal Gear series, revealing the origin story of Snake, as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.
Simultaneously, we will deliver the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection will allow fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms. We hope you will enjoy the Metal Gear series on the latest platforms.”

With an image they posted on Twitter, they have also confirmed that the game will also be released on XBOX Series X|S and Steam on PC as well as PlayStation 5, so its great that they aren’t making it console-exclusive unlike the original which was only released on PlayStation 2 and not on XBOX consoles until the HD collections were released.
It was also confirmed that the original story and voice actors will remain the same, whether this means using the existing audio or re-recording it using the original cast, we don’t know but we are just happy that David Hayter will be returning as the much-loved voice of Snake.

We also found out that Virtuos, a company known for making many great ports such as the Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster and Batman: Return to Arkham is working with the development team to create the game, these guys know what they are doing and will no doubt do great work in reusing or recreating assets from the original.
Alongside the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater they also announced Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 which will contain the first three games: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and of course Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater which will be the same as they were in the Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection.
Also, the name contains Volume 1, so this would mean there are more to come and assume this will include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and maybe some other spin-offs and perhaps even the original MSX games. The master collection is set to release in the fall of this year.
MGS: Snake Eater Comparison (Then & Now)
We were so excited by the announcement that we played the original PlayStation 2 version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater to get some comparative screenshots and put them side by side with the images released by Konami so you can see for yourself how faithful they are being to the original, you can see that they were trying to reimagine it while keeping it so similar.
Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater does not yet have an official release date, but is expected to release sometime in 2024.
So it’s an exciting time for any fan of the Metal Gear Solid series and although its a shame that Kojima has nothing to do with the project, as he has moved on to other projects, we hope they do him proud by keeping his vision intact and make the game just as exhilarating and captivating as the original was for so many of us.
