Monica Bellucci (The Matrix Reloaded) is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 to star as Beetlejuice’s wife, the titular character played by Michael Keaton.
Casting for the sequel to the classic 1988 movie is well underway, with recent announcements being the addition of Jenna Ortega who will star as Lydia Deetz’s daughter, Michael Keaton who is returning to play the titular character, Winona Ryder as Lyda Deetz and now mother to Ortega’s character, with Catherine O’Hara also set to return, along with new addition Justin Theroux whose character has yet to be revealed.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news just today about Bellucci’s casting for Beetlejuice 2, with plot details still being kept tightly under wraps, which is to be expected with a Tim Burton project, not to mention that the title isn’t expected to release until late 2024.
The Matrix fans may recognise Bellucci as she starred as Persephone in both The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions alongside Keanu Reeves, her character is seen married to Merovingian, played by Lambert Wilson, who returned to the franchise in the 2021 reboot The Matrix Resurrections.
Bellucci is also known for her international work in both her French and Italian movies, with titles such as Maléna and Brotherhood of the Wolf among her vast list of credits.
Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2 releases on September 6, 2024.
