New 'Mortal Kombat 12' Teaser Trailer Potentially Reveals Release Date While Teasing Plot

A new official teaser for Mortal Kombat 12 has been released, showing a brief few seconds of a clock that has sent fans of the massively popular game franchise down rabbit holes of speculation and theories. The newly released footage may actually contain several clues as to what the storyline of the twelfth instalment will entail, plus a possible clue as to when the new game is coming out.

This is the second teaser for Mortal Kombat 12 to be released to the public, with the first only being revealed around a week or so ago as of writing this article. In the first brief promo for the sequel to Mortal Kombat 11, fans were treated to an extremely cryptic, yet revealing, clip of sand granules falling down from above, with one granule bursting into an almost cosmic big-bang-styled explosion.

The sands of time, as seen in Mortal Kombat 11, were the clear sand granules being used in the first teaser, most likely alluding to the fact that the whole Mortal Kombat timeline had been altered, and eventually reset, as seen during the final moments of the previous game.

Mortal Kombat 12’s New Teaser Broken Down

In this new teaser, the second to be released as mentioned prior, a closeup shot of a clock ticking can be seen, with the clock’s second hand starting from 9 and working its way up, however, the hand interestingly skips the number twelve, possibly hinting at the new timeline.

Mortal Kombat 12’s Release Date Potentially Revealed In New Teaser Video

The clock starting at the number nine will most likely be in reference to the fact that the ninth Mortal Kombat game was somewhat of a reboot to the franchise, simply entitled Mortal Kombat, showing the full story from a new beginning, which was released in 2011.

The clock’s second hand then ticks from 9 up to what should be the number twelve, however, the hand skips the twelth number and goes straight to one, a strong indicator that this new story will be another new beginning, and potentially another reboot to the franchise in a sense.

Some fans have been quick to realise that this metaphorical teaser could also be revealing the official release date for Mortal Kombat 12, as the clock’s second hand gets stuck on the number 11 and then jumps to the number 1, this could very well be translated to November 1st, however, this has yet to be confirmed by NetherRealm Studios.

Its release has already been speculated to be in late 2023, with this new teaser promo potentially revealing the exact date, which wouldn’t be the first cleverly planted easter egg from the team behind the long-lasting Mortal Kombat franchise.

Mortal Kombat 12 is set to release sometime in 2023.
